Green Construction – the Oath of an Honorable Architect Featured
- Written by Maja Jovanov
BELGRADE/MOSCOW – On the occasion of the Green Construction Week, marked throughout the world from September 16 to 20, we present to you a Serbian company named Simprolit sistem – whose founder, inventor, engineer and academician Milan Dević advocates ecological ethics and universal biological principles of design.
Simprolit sistem, whose construction is applied in numerous countries besides Serbia, especially in Russia, is without any doubt one of the world leaders of the increasingly popular green construction, which is also healthy and long-lasting. It is a unique, integrated and comprehensive system of ecological, energy efficient and also economically very profitable building construction.
In accordance with these principles of the healthy construction of houses ‘which breathe’ and protection of the environment, construction engineer Dević proposes that similar to the Hippocratic oath, which is taken by physicians, architects should also take an ‘oath of an honorable architect’, which he has written and wants to present to the public on the internet pages of the House of Good News.
Architects’ Responsibility for Human Health is Immeasurable
“Although the responsibility of physicians for the health of their patients is huge, the responsibility of architects is even greater and almost immeasurable, those creators destined by fate who can by their mistakes and delusions destroy the health of not just individual patients, but entire generations who will be born and live in buildings they design. They are those who must in the realization of their creative visions also take into consideration all the physical, chemical and biological risks of the systems and materials built in, they are those who surrounded by an ocean of information full of commercial trickery, delusions and lies have an obligation to with their knowledge and critical approach select the correct detail, correct principle, the correct system”, Dević said.
Although complex at first sight, this task is not difficult – all the architects need to do is compare and apply in their solutions the solutions tested and applied for millions of years by nature...
In the interest of humankind, in the interest of generations, in the interest of the architects themselves, a great majority of whom are without any doubt honorable and honest creators, it is high time for an oath of an honorable architect, like the Hippocratic oath, to be introduced, as follows:
The Oath of an Honorable Architect
“At a moment when I join the ranks of the architectural profession, I solemnly promise to place my entire life in the service of preserving the basic principles and culturological values.
I will maintain the gratitude and respect I owe to my teacher, Nature.
I will conduct my profession in a conscientious and dignified manner. My greatest concern will be the health of the users of my buildings.
I will maintain with all my might the honor and noble traditions of the architectural profession.
In the selection of details, materials and systems of the buildings I design the following will not influence me: problems, untested principles, information of solutions which are contrary to the basic laws of nature, lobbying, interest groups, political and class affiliation.
I will absolutely respect human life and the lives of the future generations who will live in buildings I design.
Not even under threat will I allow my architectural knowledge, honor and reputation to be abused and applied in contravention to the laws of nature.
I solemnly swear to the above, freely invoking my honor.
If I abide by this oath faithfully, let me enjoy my life and the beauty of my creations, respected by all people for all of time; but if I deviate from it or break it, let my grandchildren and their descendants live in the buildings I design in such a manner.”
Milan Dević, member of the Association of Inventors of Serbia, author of the Simprolit sistem, holds a number of academic titles: of the Academy of Technological Sciences of the Russian Federation, the International Academy of Technological Sciences, the Serbian Academy of Innovation Sciences, the Russian Engineering Academy. He holds a PhD in the technology of construction and building construction engineering, and is a construction engineer of the constructive orientation.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, domestic and foreign, including the best inventor of the City of Belgrade in 2009, for the Simprolit system.
In 2012 Dević received the highest award of the international jury – the Golden Archimedes Grand Prix, the highest award of the International Fair of Innovations, Inventions and New Technologies ‘Archimedes’, held in Moscow, for the Simprolit system, a building construction technology, which is being realized in numerous countries, including Serbia and Russia. He has received numerous other awards from Russian and other foreign institutions, including a prestigious award – the Grand Prix of the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for Science and Scientific Works.
